Sometimes ...

I still think - 'it's not too late to call this MBA thing off and save myself $100k ...'
Then I always come back 'round to why this is the best plan, but still ... I have my moments of unease.

am I the only MBAer to think these thoughts?

That's my confession.

Still,

Hi,

I've been reading your blog as I'm a GSB applicant for Class of 2010 (I'm submitting my apps on R2) and was curious as to why you're having these thoughts.

1. You have come to realize that for you the $140,000 of Bschool is not worth after having gone through 4 months at GSB?

2. Anything about GSB in particular that has made you think of dropping out?

Thanks,

Ha. No, it's just still painful to spend the money - the cost still kills me. And my classes this quarter were fine but were pretty much review ... expensive review. I'm sure it will feel worthwhile once I'm employed but now the stress of trying to find a job along with the stress of paying sky high tuition plus tons on childcare makes me feel a bit queasy. I still am glad I picked the GSB and I know I'll be glad I got the MBA in the end. (Though landing an IM internship seems based more on my pre-GSB experience than anything I've learned here.) It's hard to explain exactly why I feel occasional doubts. Curious to see what Forrest Gump and Iday think ...

Thanks for the clarification. I totally understand what you mean. Tuition, childcare, opportunity cost altogether can add up to a hefty sum. Interestingly, I'm also planning on going into IM. So, it's helpful to get your insights about the summer intern recruiting experience. I know it's a tough field to break in (especially if one does not have prior experience), so I wish you all the best. Have you found that networking helps???

Networking could help, don't think I've tried enough or been at this long enough to say. Ultimately, your ability to speak intelligently about the markets (equity, bond, currency, energy - whatever suits your fancy) and convey enthusiasm for the work and have an opinion is key. Likeability is important too.
